As an intern at the Public Defender’s Office in Leon County, Florida (who is about to accept a job as a law clerk for the office), I feel incredibly strongly about helping those in need. Whether it be through investigations, interviews, or simply opening a client’s file online, every piece of work that a member of a Defense Office does is incredibly important. It truly does take a village- with the amount of work that public defenders do by themselves, there is always a large team of investigators, secretaries, and clerks for each division to make sure that every client gets the attention and help that they deserve under our United States Constitution.

Thoughts and Process
The purpose and thought behind this blog to educate all visitors on the in-depth work and tribulations that Public Defenders across the country perform every day. Gideon v. Wainwright, a historic Supreme Court Case, served as the catalyst for the creation of the Federal and State Office of the Public Defender. Everybody is entitled to legal defense, regardless of status or income. In a world full of mistrust and fear of our dedicated police officers, it is important to know your full legal rights, understand the law, and be aware of how to help yourself and others through any kind of legal process.
Welcome!
Welcome to the website! I hope that you’ll learn a little bit about our indigent defense system and get more of an in-depth view of how hard Public Defenders work for our country. This website includes a widget of links on the Home page to better understand the content; a map of the Public Defender’s Office in Tallahassee, Florida; and a video to explain just how much public defenders work every year. While the system isn’t perfect, it’s OUR system, and we deserve to know how it works and how to better it.
